Every year, I swear I’m going to “get into” football more. My husband loves it, my family loves it, and I’m actually getting to see most of my brother’s season this year for the first time in my life!

But every year I find myself way more interested in editing photos, surfing Pinterest, and well… pretty much anything besides the football game. Somehow I even end up chatting most of the time away with friends I haven’t seen all week during my brother’s football games! My dad just hangs his head in shame when my defense is, “I just don’t know what’s going on! I can’t understand anything, so it’s hard to pay attention!”

I may not understand why a “first down” is a good thing (didn’t we want him to make it to the end zone??) or always know the right time to cheer… but I really get football game food. THAT I can do!

The first thing you need at a football game is a really great hot dog. And I mean a real dog, with alllllllllll the fixins’, chilli included. That’s for the first half.

By the second half, you need something just to snack on. And it really needs to be sweet. The thing you’re looking for during the second half of a football game is a bagful of warm cinnamon sugared almonds!

And these are seriously SO EASY to make, there is no reason you can’t make a big batch of these for yourself at home and take them to the game. I poured mine into a paper sack tied up with a string, and the almonds totally kept each other warm until I was ready to eat them!

All you need is sugar, cinnamon, water, almonds, heat, and about 10 minutes. SO EASY!!!! And so delicious. You’re going to love this recipe!

Cinnamon Sugared Almond Tips

  • You can also change up the nuts! I’ve used pecans, and they are delicious as well.
  • If your sugar doesn’t dissolve all the way or crystallizes, just add a little more water and stir until it does. It will still taste great!
  • These are best eaten when they’re still warm, but they’ll keep for a few days if you store them in an airtight container. Enjoy!
  • If you’re not going to eat the almonds right away, store them in an airtight container. They’ll stay fresh for up to a week.

If you’re not going to eat them all at once, store them in an airtight container. They’ll stay fresh for up to a week. You can also freeze them for up to 2 months. Reheat them in the oven on low heat (200 degrees F) for 10-15 minutes.

  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet or pot combine the sugar, cinnamon and water over medium-high heat until the sugar has dissolved.
  2. Add the almonds and stir constantly with a spoon or spatula, coating the almonds with the syrupy mixture.
  3. Keep stirring until the sugar crystallizes (this takes about 8-10 minutes) and it looks sandy. Don't stop stirring!
  4. Remove the pan from heat and scoop the almonds onto wax or parchment paper.
  5. Let the cinnamon almonds cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

You can change up the seasonings! I've used sweet popcorn seasonings in place of cinnamon, and it's delicious!
