I get tired of eating the same beef recipes over and over again, so I am always looking for new recipes to try.

We do love out shredded beef tacos, they are always a nice treat. I wanted to try making Swiss steak in our Instant Pot for a change.

I purchased some skirt steak, veggies, and seasonings and got to work. Swiss Steak Instant Pot method is the easiest and tastiest method.

Why Do They Call It Swiss Steak

So you might be thinking this dish must be Swiss, from Switzerland! If you are thinking that, you would be wrong.

They call it Swiss steak because in traditional cooking the would go through a process called “swissing” which would mean to tenderize the meat before cooking. Pretty unique, right?!

What Is A Swiss Steak Cut Of Meat

For this recipe, I use skirt steak, but there are other cuts of meat that work well for this Swiss steak recipe.

You are welcome to use bottom round, minute steaks (cube steak) or even round steak. If you have a cut of meat that has some extra fat, just make sure to trim it off before you cook it.

How Do You Cook Swiss Steak In Oven

You would simply brown your steak in a pan with oil. You would coat it in flour and brown it as accordingly.

Then put in a greased pan, pour the tomatoes, peppers, and such over the top, cover and bake until the meat is cooked through at 350 degrees.

I personally haven’t done this route but I am assuming 30 minutes to 45 minutes you will have a tender cooked steak.

What Is The Difference Between a Swiss Steak And Salisbury Steak

What is the difference between a Swiss steak and Salisbury Steak? Let me help you out.

They both are affordable meals that use cheaper cuts of meat. A Salisbury steak is a patty form that is made from hamburger and topped with onions and seasonings. You then fry it or broil it, and even bake.

Swiss steak is a thicker cut of meat that is tenderized, braised and then baked most often. This recipe here is used in the Pressure Cooker for that tender meat you want.
